Over 70 years in the chemical industry
In 1945, the company took its first steps in the pharmaceutical field, developing and promoting mainly galenicals and proprietary medicinal products on the market.
Vebi Istituto Biochimico set out to entice foreign markets, thanks to the efforts of Dott. Renzo Bazzolo to establish an ad hoc team to achieve his goal: in 1963, the company was present in Formosa, in almost the entire Far East, in Lebanon and Syria.
In 1964, the Ministry of Health implemented a measure to reduce pharmaceutical authorisations in Italy, thus favouring the largest and best-structured companies that were able to make the substantial investments required to obtain authorisations.
Hence, Vebi Istituto Biochimico, led by Dott. Renzo Bazzolo, decided to explore new markets. Initially, the company was successful in the niche sectors of veterinary antibiotics, rodenticides and winemaking additives. It was the start of many excellent results, which have helped to build our leading position in the market over the years. For instance, the Rodenticides line, under the Murin brand – the result of structured research to obtain a universal and stable bait – stands out for its quality and performance.
The Ministry of Health required all producers of auxinics, medicated products and rodenticides to submit specific authorisation for the production and registration of individual products.
The Murin rodenticide line obtained the authorisations required, confirming its presence on the market. It was run by a company division specifically created for the garden and pest control sector.
The Cosmetics sector was the second market that Vebi Istituto Biochimico decided to explore by starting to offer suncreams, toothpastes and other ointments. In 1977, with the setting up of a structured division, Dott. Bazzolo identified a new product that he intended to launch on the market: a long-lasting cream deodorant that was to become successful mainly abroad – especially in the Arab market.
Exports increased allowing Vebi to capture new markets in Countries such as Egypt, Germany and Portugal.
Vebi abandoned its animal feed line due to European legislation coming into force that was detrimental to purchases made by small farms. Nevertheless, the benchmark division confirmed its outstanding performance and became a market leader in the garden and pest control sectors, whereas the cosmetics division continued to grow.
Ongoing research into products for distribution through the pharmacy channel led to the birth of a new line of products for body care and hygiene for families.
Insecticides, plant protection and PPO products were added to the garden division and pest control division. The company took a huge step forward due to significant investments in technology and innovation.
In the Vebi laboratories, a special micro-encapsulated insecticide formula was created, which, once again, demonstrated the relevance and growth of Research and Development within the company.
The water-based micro-encapsulated formula, with low toxicity and multi-target efficacy was the mainstay of Draker, the product registered in the same year. Since then, Draker has always been synonymous with guaranteed insect control and a best selling product in many Countries worldwide.
A company branch was opened in Turkey and non-EU markets grew (Middle East, Far East and North Africa).
Vebi Istituto Biochimico has become a firmly established company, exporting to over 50 Countries worldwide and handling more than 700 products.
